To clarify, I live in Michigan. However, NJ still requires a permit, even for non-residents, to purchase a firearm from a NJ based FFL:

Thanks Toby! It’s actually kinda funny how I was able to get the non-resident/temporary MA LTC which allows me to CARRY but not PURCHASE firearms. Whereas I wasn’t able to get the NJ FID which would’ve allowed me to PURCHASE but not CARRY firearms.

I shouldn’t have to chill the exercise of my 1A rights in order to exercise my 2A rights.
However, as evidenced by the letter they certainly did look at my Twitter account and punished me accordingly. “This guy is anti-cop so no buying guns in NJ for him!”
