This old boy fainted tonight. He’s okay now, had a wee, a drink and a snack. I took this photo two minutes ago, bless him he’s trying his best. I fear we are heading towards the twilight of his life. Right now he’s on the best drugs and snoring in my office.

Lana is out of surgery and is in recovery. Post op X-ray looks excellent and there were no complications. She's on good pain medication and antibiotics *lets out huge sigh of relief*

Lana update. She had a comfortable night, asked to go out at 4:30 because she’s the best girl and is eating this morning!( she wouldn’t eat at all yesterday). All medications on board too - phew. Again thank you everyone for your thoughts and kind wishes. They mean a lot.

Good news! Lana’s been given the all clear. Total hip replacement surgery 12 weeks ago was a success. She’s in her crate wrapped in a thick towel sleeping off the effects of the anaesthetic so I won’t disturb her for a photo. Thank you to everyone for following her progress :)

@DubCityCouncil This is a sort-sighted and a bad idea. Rathmines/ Ranelagh/ SCR is full of flats without gardens or any outdoor space at all, so people make use of what little public space is available after MONTHS of Covid restrictions. Maybe support outdoor use better with bins and portaloos?

The old boy is almost completely deaf, losing his eyesight, slow, tired, and very ancient, but with good meds he enjoys a decent happy contented life and he deserves his retirement.

@herong You are his parent. You don’t stop being his parent the second he turns eighteen. If anything he will need guidance and patience now more than ever as he navigates the early stages of adulthood ( which can be challenging).

He’s had some pain meds half an hour ago. Nothing dramatic, but he’s very old and he needs a bit of help. Now he’s the picture of contentment. Old dogs have value and every day with them is a bonus. 💕

I may have mentioned before that Archer is a saint. But it bears repeating: he met a pug tonight on the way home. Initially she and her owner were scared as we came up behind them- seconds later the pug was licking his face and her owner was laughing. The very best boy.

Lana has a bad hip. Luck of the draw unfortunately as her parents were both hip and elbow scored. To this end A and I have decided a total hip replacement will serve her well. Today she had her first measurements for her new joint. I will keep you informed how she gets on 💕

Archer update. Much brighter today and he ate for the first time since Tuesday. He’s still tired, but eating, drinking and toileting. I on the other hand have aged 10 years in 3 days.

She was out earlier doing a search and find for a rock I had hidden. Her first proper game in seven weeks. She is currently snoring her head off. Surgeon has cleared her for exercise! Woo-boo. What a good girl.

His bloods are awesome, kidneys, liver. All good. He has a problem with his bum that is manageable. He had a liberla injection for a little arthritis in his front legs. He is snoring his head off here, warm and comfortable. Thank you all for your love of this beautiful bear. X

Lana update: she’s asleep, we managed to get her medication into her in small cream smothered pieces. She was too exhausted to go out for a wee so we swapped her bed for a towel. She drank water and is now out cold. Tomorrow I hope she feels brighter. Goodnight 😴

The old boy has been struggling a bit with his limbs and floors. So we bought him a rug for the end of the bed (which he likes to sleep near) and he’s delighted with it. A very good solution for a very good boy.

Lana update- she has been out for a wee, enjoyed some steak pieces and cooked chicken, tried to eat a wasp and is comfortable. Her mood seems a little lifted due to we left all the doors open she could enjoy the afternoon and smells. Take care.

Lana update- nice clean operation site. Hair growing back, fast asleep because I’m playing Mozart which she has loved since she was a puppy (seriously - I wrote a whole book to requiem just to keep her quiet). A very good girl.

Quid pro quo. The little robin for whom I bought a kilo of dried mealworms 🤢 now sings all day long in the tree outside my office. He/she has just signed off for the day at dusk and I think I have won the better bargain. Just beautiful, nature is wonderful.

Morning, thank you all for the well wishes and kindness about Archer, he's asleep, went out for a wee and drank some water, although he's not interested in food. I've spoken to vet, he's comfortable and alert so I'll keep and close eye on him. Hopefully it's just a blip.
