My take on the whole 'let them rest' discussion is that they're prof athletes they trained the whole year for this moment this is their job and there's no way (other than injury) they would want to rest during the most important competition of the year when the team needs them

If their coaches want to rest them they should do it during training by adjusting the intensity and numbers and let them recover properly

Also we've seen a lot of times gymnasts do AA in quals + TF + AA so what's changed this time that everyone is worried? (genuinely asking..)

@arabianDLO I think it highlights the gulf between “normal” people and elite athletes. When athletes would talk about wanting to prove themselves to go up in 3 up 3 count TF and I’m like “why tho” lol, seems like too much pressure! Which is why I’m on the couch and they’re on the beam.

@arabianDLO Yes! I don’t understand why this is such a thing this year. It’s their job and you know that if they’re not injured that they WANT to compete.

@arabianDLO EXACTLY. And it's annoying that it comes up NOW when Gabby Douglas (2012), Maggie Nichols (2015 WC), Simone (2016), etc, have done it and been EXCELLENT. And MANY other countries' top AAers are doing it, too. If Simone needed rest, we know DAMN well she'd ask for (and get) it.
