Universal healthcare is cheaper for everyone in the long run. In our current system, you’re actually paying a lot more and getting less healthcare.
@anilsaidso
Australia's health care system is brilliant.
I am un sure how our Taxes compare to the USA, however when tragedy strikes and emergency services are required - the fact that it is either free or generally minimal in expense is worth it.
@SirTrunk
Wasn't making a judgement on quality of different systems. Just saying 'free' isn't accurate.
The Medicare levy in Oz is 2% of taxable income.

Relying on a third-party payer puts our care decisions at the whim of what an insurer or government will allow.
We get what we pay for.

@saifedean
That's why in Europe it's called social health insurance not healthcare. Because it's a paid insurance service by individuals or the government for the unemployed.

Somebody else.
Socialism is the Belief that you can make the other guy pay for your free shit, while ignoring the 10 guys who are looking to you to pay for theirs.

Who gets crippling medical bills dogging them in some case for the rest of thier natural lives
And who can walk out of the hospital and go for a stoll in the park without seeing huge hikes in thier taxes or NI outside normal budget announcements
@anilsaidso
Yeah nobody I know calls it free. Sounds like someone trying to make a point and sounding a bit weak. Most important question should be, do the most vulnerable in society have access to a high standard of care? If not then is that a society to look up to?
