FYI this equation is wrong you need to subtract 50 off the sum, the first block is unspendable.

Beautiful. However, I'd like to point out that if we ever decide to use a smaller unit of account onchain, this will inadvertently increase the number of halvings that will occur in the future. I explain why in technical detail in this Reddit post.

Took me some time to understand.
Started with 50 per block mined, reward halved after every 210k blocks (which is incidentally approx 4 years, 10 mins per block).
Total 32 such halvings totaling 21M.
Elegant due to its simplicity.
