SecDef Austin has again extended the deployment of carrier USS GERALD R FORD CVN78 with Carrier Air Wing 8 and cruiser NORMANDY CG60. They've been out since mid-May, 227 days and counting.

Wait, what happens if you reach the end of your service? Do they fly you off the carrier or do they wait until it returns to dock?

You’re flown off in the COD and they’ll get you back to CONUS to finish out-processing.

Back in ‘88 steak and lobster on CVN 70 was a $28,000 meal. We had it once a month, birthday meal. Had to show ID to eat it on aft mess decks. The 2 birthday months got it. Everyone else got sliders/breakfast on fwd mess decks. (Of course Wardroom and CPO got it too).

On the Independence in 74-75, we got extended in the Med because Kissinger didn't want to leave the Saratoga alone. Saratoga did not have a good deployment...
