#OTD in 1996, the Japanese destroyer Yugiri accidentally shot down a U.S. Navy A-6E Intruder with a Phalanx CIWS during a training exercise. The Intruder crew from VA-115 ejected and were recovered. It was the first foreign plane shot down by Japanese forces since 1945.
