1st Oct 1959 English Electric test pilot Johnny W.C. Squier, flying prototype Lightning T.4, suffers structural failure, ejected M1.7, first UK pilot to eject supersonic. he landed in Irish Sea, and made his way ashore by himself after 28 hours in a dinghy.
