I spent this week investigating how Croydon Council went bankrupt with £1.6 billion of debts
Sorry to say it’s another shocking tale of incompetence, hubris and aggressive efforts to shut down media scrutiny by people who thought they knew best
I also have to highlight the amazing work of
@InsideCroydon
which has been battling valiantly for years to hold the council to account (and been met with nothing but contempt and bullying by Croydon’s top officials and councillors)
@andrewellson
It's fantastic to see some old fashioned Fleet St investigative journalism for a change, the modern press can be so lazy at times (pardon the pun). Nice one Andrew, you're a credit to your trade.
@andrewellson
Andrew - please come and have a gander at what passes for scrutiny and due diligence at Warrjngton - similar to croydon but a 2.4 billion debt … no openness no honesty .. come on down sir
@andrewellson
⛔ Warrington Council. I've been threatened by the chief exec, leader, directors since raising safeguarding concerns at the council. There's been attempted suicides due to abuse, one teen girl murdered I warned the council someone would end up dead in my complaint.
@andrewellson
@BondHack
@kadhim
why aren't the personal finances investigated of senior leadership. Same at Warrington Council. Corruption at the top is obvious. Investments they pass are overpriced with wiggle room, risk potentially for a bung.
@andrewellson
The consequences of no consequences!
If no one goes to jail for this, or other scandals such as the PPE contracts or the Test & Trace cost, it will all happen again in no time!
