I really hate the “open to work” and “hiring” badge on LinkedIn. They seem so….desperate for all the wrong reasons. Tell me I’m wrong?

@alischwanke someone who was laid off and was looking for a job “desperately” and someone who is a hiring manager looking to expand the reach for inorganic candidates - both the badges have helped tremendously. Call it desperate or whatever you wish- If that thing boosts your profile in the…

@alischwanke It's all down to tactics now. If it shows up on a potential recruiter's feed vs. not.

@alischwanke You're wrong. Maybe they are desperate. Doesn't mean they suck. At worst, it might mean they are a bit naive, but that shouldn't be a life sentence to poverty.

@alischwanke Not wrong but I don't think they are there for you, but for the platform's algo. Eg. the recruiter or the job seeker views might connect better based on these badges and so on

@alischwanke When faced with moral questions like this you should ask yourself “does this opinion seek to uplift or does it contribute to someone’s oppression / suffering” and you will have your answer

@alischwanke not a fan of the "open to work" but mostly that's because I've seen it being used by...employed folks? which feels odd. I've been using the "hiring" badge for us though and it's been helpful getting good referrals from my network
