Russia might be unpopular in most parts of the world, but relationship with South Africa is obviously still rather cordial. Tucked away in the Cargo area at CT International Airport is this plane flying the white, blue and red flag. There’s got to be an interesting story here.

They are here to score on your fracking in the Karoo ideas…here to loot, steal and corrupt…I am still dismayed that you are still supportive of destroying a very sensitive ecosystem….

Delivering another consignment of Beluga caviar for the ANC elite in return for some Rhino horn for Putin who hasn't had a hard-since he invaded Ukraine.
@alechogg
Yes indeed. Dirco has adopted a rather ambiguous approach to Russia over this whole Ukrainian invasion. Would be interesting to note what movement there has been in Russian imports to SA of late. Presumably Sars has this info?
@alechogg
The story is simple & legit. A RSA company leases in this aircraft every year (has for many yrs) between Oct-March to fly to Antarctica supporting some of the EU missions there. They fly in personnel, fuel, undertake medical flights. It’s got zero to do with the Russian & SA Gov

“It is a world leader in the global market for the movement of oversize, unique and heavy air cargo.[1] Volga-Dnepr Airlines serves governmental and commercial organizations in petrochemical, energy, aerospace, agriculture, and telecommunications industries.” Source Wikipedia
@alechogg
I wouldn’t read too much into it. Russian planes have long been used for cargo in Southern Africa for many years, especially during retail season. I remember an AN24 cargo plane into PE years back- 3am, the propellers hadn’t even stopped and he was outside smoking!
