keeping software small and coherent is hard as hell even if you are getting paid to work on it all day everyday and have literally zero users

create an ecosystem where all the lego blocks have 1million users and the people who are supposed to maintain them have to work all day on something else so they can eat and of course, yeah, it's big and incoherent

It's even harder if compatibility expectations mean that it's incredibly hard to ever remove or change existing functionality.
