Wealthy Sri Lankans cheered on the aragala types who took the brunt of the state's force when they were trying to get rid of Gota. The moment someone who they felt could represent their class interests took the throne, they vanished.
@afidelf
Is there concrete evidence that it's only (or even predominantly) wealthy people who "abandoned" the aragalaya? Quite a few people I have spoken to, who are by no means wealthy or even "Colombo", have said they would to like just get on with it now.
@himalkk
Obvs not ONLY the wealthy, and nowhere has that been suggested. But they're the group that made the most decisive switch. From supporting to vilifying at times.
Also a wider sense of exhaustion as you say.
Wondering where the word abandoned comes from.
@afidelf
it's a matter of the Arayagala not having any plan after GR left. Ppl who support RW don't want chaos.
The Arayagala is deeply divided and can't agree on a path forward all the while we have a massive crisis.
It has nothing to do with class, its logic and common sense.
@afidelf
This is SL. The wealthy are opportunist. They are also a part of the problem. They bribe politicians to get there work done to earn their wealth. SL is worse than a banana republic. The profiteers are the worst as they do everything to maintain this system of called corruption🙏

@indica
Truth might hurt but this tweet focuses on a key issue. The aspirations of the urban haves and others. Perhaps we can’t generalise all but many now seem to be happier with nothing having changed but the head. Now we hear justifications on why it should remain. May be so but..
@afidelf
Class issue? Most dislike RW. However, many who are in business wants stability so that what’s left of the economy can be salvaged. Those who are responsible for paying wages of workers, suppliers, loan repayments etc understand this.
@afidelf
I think that the Aragalaya stopped for good with Ranil becoming the president. Why? Because chasing out everyone will only deepen the crisis further.
@afidelf
there is a massive middle class here and initially they supported the protest.But people by and large do not want anarchy and looting.after they got their main demands,people who work for a living want to go on with their lives.A protest must also know when to stop. Common sense.
@afidelf
Have we lost the plot? Gota left leaving an unholy mess of bankruptcy and looming famine. If RW goes as some ppl wish then parliament can legally elect Namal as Prez and that's Basil's game plan with all the albeit partially valid hatreds of RW all over the SM. And IMF cancelled
@afidelf
Part of me agrees with you but part of me is searching for the alternative. Who would have been the right successor to GR? Purely based on merit.
@afidelf
@AriffShihab
Tha theme of Aragalya is Gota Go, that was successfully achieved. Now Aragalya has to wait and see policy with Ranil and press for Elections.
@afidelf
It's not a 'class' issue - Ranil is not the best choice - however in the current situation - he is the only choice.
Sajith backed off - as he did when he was offered the premier ship - Dullas obtained 4 votes and AKD obtained 3.
So please - I am not a supporter of Ranil.
@afidelf
Sri Lankan elites were never interested in system change. Gota inconvenienced then, hence the lip service to the aragalaya. They just want to retain the status quo and carry on as usual.
@afidelf
You seem to know lot more than just cricket. I think
@ESPNcricinfo
should fire you, so you can focus on your political work. Anyway, since you have a great understanding about Sri Lanka and the people, can you tell us who should be the President?
