Why you should encourage your children to study science up to Grade 12.

“Had I not suggested economics, philosophy and other social sciences as subjects that offered rewarding career paths? So, why was I now arm twisting Tenth Graders of the World to take science & maths? What else was this other than pure hypocrisy?”

@acorn Easier said than done. Some students just can't cope up with the hard work that science requires. And when they begin to fail, it completely crushes their confidence.

@DeeptimanTY Yes. The curriculum must change too…teach the concepts and methods, instead of memorisation and calculations.

@acorn Interesting. I took sciences till the 12th and then English honours at University. Why, I'll never know (I want all that good but wasn't all that bad either).

@acorn The way science is taught in India, I don't think it makes much difference. Class 11/12 science is tough, extensive, and stressful. First we need to change the way we teach science at junior levels to stress on proof, experiments and questioning.

@acorn I don't agree. Yes Science and Math are important, but compulsory till grade 8/10 is enough. More importantly, providing 2 levels of these subjects will be very helpful & most boards do that now. The confidence of some kids is dented because they are forced to study this stuff
