Hot take: auditing costs in web3 today are like hardware costs for startups in the early 2000s

@abstractooor hardware cost decreases with scale auditing cost increases with the scale

@plusminushalf that depends on how much of auditing you can automate right?

@abstractooor Auditing costs are like foundry costs for running fab runs for chip designs

@jan_o_e fab runs are fully automated though right? so they scale much better than audits today

@abstractooor Developing SC vs developing Hardware is actually an even better analogy They have the similar property, that once the product (the contract or hardware product) is deployed, it is very expensive to fix mistakes & often must recall

@Eito_Miyamura yeah I like this analogy, has there been any similar order of magnitude cost decreases to building hardware similar to building software?

@abstractooor Just as tech evolves, so do the challenges. Investing in security and trust is crucial, though the landscape may shift, making audits today's essential groundwork for a safer, more resilient crypto ecosystem

@abstractooor And just like with hardware, once we have a component that has been tried and tested in multiple places, costs are reduced as more complex systems can be safely and efficiently constructed with it.

@abstractooor This is way out of my depth.. but perhaps more formal methods -> more room for automated testing Would be interesting to hear @mboesp @MikaelBjorn takes
