Tonight’s attendance (24,052) IS the highest ever for a CWS Finals game 3. This is also the highest attendance ever for the Finals overall. And the 361,711 attendance for the entire CWS is also a record. Certainly, the @HailStateBB presence was a big factor here.

So @HailStateBB spent some money this offseason too. They added a huge weight room to the Palmeiro Center - pretty sure it's the biggest in college baseball. They still have some TVs and graphics and such to install, but wow is this impressive.

The bubble was very hard this year, and you can argue either way on most of those bubble teams — just listen to our final projection show last night. But NC State should not have even been on the bubble. 17-16 aggregate in ACC with a No. 33 RPI should be a no-brainer at-large.

Had a coach text me that the NCAA's umpire evaluators almost always back the umpires, and there needs to be a formal review process for ejections that carry automatic suspensions. If an umpire with thin skin can trigger a 4-game suspension, there must be a fair review process.

Here's a name you need to know for @RazorbackBSB : Hunter Hollan. Lean, athletic 6-foot-5 lefty with a really live arm. Pumping 93-95 with giddy-up, feel for a 78-80 slider with big tilt and a useful 85-87 changeup. Transfer from San Jac will be a big difference maker for Hogs.

Kade Kern, the best hitter in college baseball, is now hitting .778 in his @OhioStateBASE career. The freshman delivers yet again with an RBI single in the 5th to cut the Illinois lead to 5-4. He's 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs today after going 5-for-6 with a double and triple yesterday.

And @NCStateBaseball is one win away from its first-ever trip to the #CWS Finals. Sam Highfill was brilliant, and Evan Justice slammed the door as usual, leading #Pack9 to a compelling 1-0 win against Jack Leiter and Vanderbilt. What a performance by every pitcher involved.

I have learned that @IUHoosiers voted in favor of the third assistant proposal in the Big Ten meeting. Even though the conference as a whole dropped the ball, Indiana deserves big credit for fighting for this common-sense measure.

Jake Mangum is the final @HailStateBB player to touch the baseball this year — slid to cut off a ball in the gap but had no chance to make a throw home. He immediately plopped backward onto the turf and raised his head to his hands. What a heartbreaker for Mississippi State.

FINAL: @HailStateBB run rules LSU 15-5 in 8 innings, as Amani Larry draws walk-off walk. Bulldogs win series vs LSU. Very impressed with State this weekend - tons of quality ABs, got the power bars going today, plenty of very good arms and pitching variety, and they play hard.

Feels like this ump crew handled this situation as poorly as possible, and Forbes was done a great injustice here. And there needs to be more accountability for umpires & a proper postgame review/appeals process. Did umpire initiate contact with Forbes, then suspend him 2 games?

And here's the ejection. You can see in the immediate shot where Scott Forbes is arguing that first-base umpire John Brammer initiated contact with him. Brammer then puts two fingers in the air, signaling a two-game suspension.

As Scott Forbes made his way to the postgame press conference, he ran across former coach Mike Fox, who choked up as they hugged. “Thanks for believing in me,” Forbes told him, as Fox fought back tears. What a touching moment.

Hey Division I Rules Committee: are you watching the World Series? See what just happened? Diaz sticks out his elbow to get hit by a pitch - umpire correctly rules it was intentional. He stays in the box, but it was a ball, not an automatic strike. That's how it should be done.
