ailments in persona have always been rly weird. there's never been anything to show if an enemy is vulnerable to ailments, most bosses block them, and strategy wise there's not much to them. most of the time it's easier to just. kill the enemy. they need a bit of a rework...

[Spoilers for P3R's First Boss] - - - - Probably a weird take but I've never liked how RPGs make bosses immune to all status, feels weird for bosses to be a test of skill but it's impossible to use one of the game's main mechanics 90% of the time

@_ace_defective_ Status ailments in games like Pokemon are cool cause most Pokemon are supposed to live a few turns so ailments actually have an effect Persona fights last at most like 3 turns and the times where they do last longer than that (bosses) have ailments blocked so what's the point 💀

@Kafonn_ didn't comment on this initially but one reason I really think ailment affinity needs to be shown on the analysis screen is because many of the Tartarus guardians are actually vulnerable or weak to different ailments. but no one knows that bc the game doesn't tell you anyways 💀

@krisbutnottaken persona Q genuinely is so interesting in a lot of ways; in particular I love the binds and links. seriously, we need some of those mechanics to appear in a mainline game sometime haha

@SinkingMnhttn eh technical on ailments isn't as useful as you're suggesting. it's basically just a guaranteed crit, but some ailments already increase the chance of crit (also their effects are and should be the main gimmick)

@_ace_defective_ Does P3R even explain what all the ailments do anywhere or did I miss that? It's kinda frustrating not just using trial and error to figure out if they're immune or not but also to figure out if the ailment would even be helpful if it does work.

@XeroxBeautiful I'm actually not sure if it does lol I think they're mostly intuitive, you also get bits of info throughout the game. the only ones that are a little confusing are panic (can't use skills) and distress (decreased def/acc)

@_ace_defective_ Then you have things like the statue tartarus boss where I could not find a way to remotely survive them without casting distress constantly (on merciless). And it worked 100% of the time so I can only assume it’s intended.

@_ace_defective_ It’s weird because you could say that to a lot of RPGs usually outside of buffs and debuffs, status ailments aren’t really used for much except for a niche moveset otherwise it’s easier to just using attacking spells instead

@_ace_defective_ Status ailments in Reload have been great for dealing with certain Border Floor bosses and dangerous Shadows, but beyond that and the early game, they don't get much use. Outside of Mitsuru because she is a MONSTER this go around.

@_ace_defective_ They're really good in early game when your party have short SP bars and you don't have/know the enemy weakness. The best, imo, its confusion since you can get more loot from it.

@_ace_defective_ It really pisses me off bc I like using them but 9/10 times using them is just throwing your turn Why go for a maybe ailment that doesn’t work (if t doesn’t just miss) instead of a guaranteed hit?
