If this is Mandarin or Cantonese it might have been “nèi ge”, basically means “uh” or “um” in Chinese. So, you hear it a lot among anybody speaking Chinese.
Been the result of a LOT of, misunderstandings between westerners and Chinese in the past. That’s for sure.
