I followed him here after the aggression started. His translation of what's happening is something that I look forward to.
I found out after his death that he came to study here in Malaysia as an act of defiant against the Western education system.

I never met him personally but through his posts on X I somehow felt connected. My wife and Refaat followed each other on X and exchanged a few messages. So somehow he was part of our family. May Allah grant him the highest rewards in Jannah.

He taught me that writing is a testimony, to never underestimate the power of the written word and that telling our stories is essential to our very being. He taught me what real solidarity is, he taught me how to laugh in the face of power and what it means to be truly free.
