Fascinating how folks want the celebration of #Juneteenth without an acknowledgement of the debt owed due to centuries of chattel slavery. How do you celebrate the "freedom" but ignore the bondage that preceded it?

@YNPierce @ECMcLaughlin That’s the beauty of a legal Federal Holiday for Juneteenth; all Americans will be exposed to and educated by it - & finally to publicly CELEBRATE the permanent abolition of slavery.

@YNPierce I agree. My company did a mass email today, yet the sufferings I have seen and endured at a particular hospital are disheartening. #JuneteenthHoliday +Recompense (400 years with interest) I don’t need another holiday!

@YNPierce Exactly! We do may-like, pretend freedom, and erase the genocide and negation that precipitated the date in the first place. Well stated.

@YNPierce @MichelleKalehz1 I think it will push more white folks into a necessary acknowledgement of slavery - not enough, but baby steps forward. Personally, I think voting rights protections are more important but seeing the truth can’t hurt either.
