without an acknowledgement of the debt owed due to centuries of chattel slavery. How do you celebrate the "freedom" but ignore the bondage that preceded it?

That’s the beauty of a legal Federal Holiday for Juneteenth; all Americans will be exposed to and educated by it - & finally to publicly CELEBRATE the permanent abolition of slavery.

I agree. My company did a mass email today, yet the sufferings I have seen and endured at a particular hospital are disheartening.

I think it will push more white folks into a necessary acknowledgement of slavery - not enough, but baby steps forward.
Personally, I think voting rights protections are more important but seeing the truth can’t hurt either.
