Seen today in my local Buy Nothing group:
“Give. Come stand downwind of my flowering plum tree and just breathe. For real. If this is what your heart needs please dm me for address. It’s in my front yard. It’s heavenly.”

My wife is in a Facebook group called Buy Nothing where people list stuff they’re giving away.
The other day, a lady came to our house to pick up two granola bars that we didn’t like
I wish I could go back in time and describe to my 20 year self how one day it’ll be 12:30 at night and I’ll be one of six people who have responded “interested” on a set of three pairs of socks someone in our local Buy Nothing group has posted, eagerly hoping to be the chosen one

NextDoor would be like: “*post photo* this person was loitering outside my house smelling the plum tree on my property. Completely ignoring my no trespassing sign. Does anyone know this person? I called 911 but the police haven’t shown up yet.”

My favorite was the heated discussion among NextDoorians trying to find the vandal who is destroying the tulips in their front yard. Rather than considering the most likely culprit (the damn SQUIRRELS, obvs), they decided it must be IMMIGRANT CHILDREN WHO DON’T SPEAK ENGLISH.

This made my day. I joined because my friends girlfriend was in a video posted and I wanted to see it. She was walking down a public alley with a shovel and bag. Her cat had died etc. But the neighbors definitely thought she was planning a robbery. 😩
I make fun of the exurban police blotters, but a couple of days ago I learned that a neighbor was about to call the cops on me for pausing to take a photo of a kitten early in the morning last week when I was walking around my block. Thought I “looked suspicious.”

Beautiful tweet! Most people on NextDoor remind me of Rachel Lynde from the Anne of Green Gables books. “Mark my words, Marilla: that’s the kind puts strychnine in the well!”

It is amazing what you can find, including a real sense of community, in Buy Nothing groups. And what you can gift! We once ordered pizza entitled The Reaper because we love hot spicy, but barely made it through a slice. Posted there & within minutes someone else was enjoying it.

Oh wow, I would totally go breathe that person's plum tree! Closer than the arboretum, which I also drive to specifically to hang out with the flowering plum trees, but neighbor probably has better parking.

Truth! So much kindness gets spread around, although the initial intent is usually just to get rid of stuff you don't want without putting it in the trash.
