Pride should be a cool, queer-friendly block party you can attend to meet with organizers and get cute shirts. Everyone should be able to attend. It should be safe and uncontroversial. Dismissing accessibility as "sanitization" is a really underhanded and disgusting strategy
Kink at Pride makes people uncomfortable and makes the event less accessible, when accessibility should be a priority. Keep less family-friendly stuff to the many, many afterparties and adjacent, private venues every Pride has
The fact that this is controversial is insane to me
If you want something more spicy, there are a *billion* places for that. Afterparties, separate areas, Pride club events, even entire separate organized marches, etc. etc. I am asking for ONE widely-accessible event.
People claiming Pride always has to be some big antagonistic inaccessible riot are actively fighting against the normalization of queer people by fetishizing the aesthetic of their oppression. You guys are tools of the establishment lmao

@VaushV
If you're not LGBTQ+ this isn't your lane and wanting a different celebration then don't attend. Let people be happy and enjoy their time without agitation. Can they do that? We've got one life let people enjoy it.
@VaushV
Pride can "evolve" and become a cute block party once we have equal rights across the globe.
Until then: pride is us not being quiet. Pride is us wanting rights. Many pride parades across the globe are still attacked by police.
@VaushV
Pride shouldn't be a family friendly street festival.
It should be a political parade that fights for the rights of queer people and against discrimination in society.
It should be a transgression of societal norms.
@VaushV
This is ignorant of the history of Pride. A huge element of the founding of Pride was a rebellion against the notion that the queer community should fit into society at larger and smooth out its edges (said sanitization). Assimilation to v. Resistance of norms is built in.
@VaushV
"Pride should be Queer-Friendly"
I'm.
Bro. Pride is *our thing.* It shouldn't have to be 'queer-friendly' when it already belongs to us. What you're proposing is a straight allies event, and frankly fuck that noise.
@VaushV
abolishing kink =/= accessibility unless you truly believe its wrong for kids to see people in harnesses and if you do think this then I ask: do you also consider revealing costumes taboo when worn in TV ads or, like, superbowl halftime shows rather than by gay people at a parade
@VaushV
"As an 'ally' I want a friendly block party where I can drink my rainbow absolute and be entertained by silly drag queens. My comfort and entertainment are the terms of my allyship. Don't ask me to make myself uncomfortable for some kind of politics or something.' ๐๐
