Thanks for posting this. My mother just lost her job because of ageism. 67 years old & the best nurse case manager her employers could have. Fired w/5 other people over 60 for bogus trumped-up reasons, all so they could get younger & cheaper employees. It's not right & must STOP.
In 1980, a psychiatric nurse at Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital (and mother of two) divorced her husband in the midst of a particularly troubled married life and decided to pursue her lifelong dream of an acting career. She was 40.

In case anyone was wondering, her former employers were
#Anthem
#BlueCrossBlueShield
. And I happily encourage anyone & everyone to avoid giving them your business if possible. Thanks.

I'm hoping they will. But unfortunately, in NYS, an employer can fire anybody at any time under the employment-at-will doctrine & make up whatever reason why too... even if its complete BS. AND most courts side with employers, making it so hard to win wrongful termination cases.

Same thing at the last hospital I worked in - 2 advanced practice degrees-in my 50’s. The excuse for a corporate pattern of age discrimination was a “business” decision. To fight large bully hospital system was not something had the energy for. Just sold my 1st painting since HS!

Exactly. It sickens me that these companies can just get away with casually destroying lives in the name of "business," but fighting them all too often becomes a costly & exhausting struggle for far too many years. To them, it's a nuisance. But to the rest of us, it's our LIFE.
