lmao Hiyama says being Link in Ocarina of Time was really hard because Nintendo told him his shouts needed to be not "Japanese" but "international" and he was like what the fuck does that mean

Since people have liked this so much I'll add a bit about this I didn't bother posting: At the end of the process, Hiyama originally didn't feel any satisfaction with his performance, since he had no clue what would be "good", in this case. He just tried until Nintendo said, "OK"

So his feeling was very much, "Was that really OK?" But nowadays, seeing so many people all over the world be so passionate about that Link performance, and so many fans who've sought him out because of it, he's very humbled, like "Ah, Nintendo really knew what they were doing."

@ToastCrust I was at a Rich Epcar panel a few weeks back and he said being a dub director for Lupin is hard because the Japanese producers keep telling English VAs to do lines "bigger" but not explaning what that means

@ToastCrust "Do your Joe voice." "But he's Japanese." "Yes, but he hangs out with those American guys so he's international. Get iiiit?" "No."

@ToastCrust To be fair that sound he makes when Link jumps off high ledges and breaks his shins is very universal and upsetting lol

@ToastCrust In Dragon Quest Builders 2, the main character often shouts "Ya hah!" in celebration, which a few of my Japanese viewers interpreted as "yatta!," but it isn't if you listen closely.
