My unpopular opinion on the tech industry:
People who just post salaries, certs, and glamorize the money in this field are just looking for clout and to appear rich to those who aren’t in the field. They are not telling newcomers the actual reality of getting into the field
@fiyahwerks
completely agree and it’s being had but many people outside of the conversation try to act like it doesn’t happen and the money will blind that all away
@thedgtalempress
Such an important discussion to have! The Tech industry is not a “get rich quick” scheme. The only way to be competitive in the field is to put in the time, effort and practice required to get good at the skills.
@thedgtalempress
And I wish they would. I graduate in 5 months. I need to know what I’m getting myself into. Recruiters are the same way. They sugarcoat a lot I feel
@thedgtalempress
Yeah, they don’t talk about this enough,
It was years grinding just to get the certification to get you into interviews where they may or may not hire you for entry level jobs
@thedgtalempress
certifications are useless gatekeeping bullshit. I refuse to put certifications as requirements for anything non-engineering related positions. For entry level helpdesk you do not need MCSE, A+, network + or security + learn on the job intstead.
@thedgtalempress
Directors and management positions are really for 1 man shops and they're expected to wear 5-10 hats as well so don't be fooled. Most companies will never hire a back fill for your old position you're expected to do your new role and continue your old role.
