People who write for Vijay and Ajith has to start realizing that for STORY to exist, the protagonist has to be on the backfoot at least ONCE in the storyline. At least ONCE, they have to be "apparently defeated".
Without that, we're all just watching Thala Thalapathy fan edits.

meaning, moments in the story where the villain is winning, the hero's plan not working out, defeated, having to come up with something new altogether to survive/win, losing something in order to get what they want, moments where it's "the hero's darkest hour".
@Taneshh10
Well that wont work.. Remember Anjaneya.. if he is a hero, then he should never be defeated.. it can be a momentarily upper hand for the baddie like in master will work..

Vijay fan here, but for me Thunivu worked more than Varisu.
I agree with what you said, and I think that's partially the reason why Master, Mersal, Theri etc etc worked.
@Taneshh10
Thunivu la athu thana nadakkuthu when people from AK's gang get killed and even he gets killed almost. So he comes back with a revenge. Even within the bank, he gets taken by a surprise with the 3rd layer of heist and gets caught.
@Taneshh10
Well said. Also the character should be imperfect not a 100% agmark sealed one. Movie characters need not be perfect. No need to stamp their real life image, for fans they can but not affecting the whole plot of d movie
@Taneshh10
This is why Thuppakki is a masterpiece. There are portions in the film where the villain is one step ahead of him and the hero has to try hard and think out of the box for solutions.
@Taneshh10
There was a moment of writing good villains. Thani Oruvan, Sarpatta and Maanadu. Thiruchitrambalam had a nice slice of life feel in family drama to it. Mayira pochu
