The SPC has made history today by releasing a Day 2, 5% tornado risk for California, which has not happened before.Tornado risks are rare in California, and when we apply it being a Day 2, 5%, it shows a REAL threat. Populated areas are concluded in the risk, and should be alert.

There is a Moderate risk for Excessive Rainfall in SO Cal today, and unfortunately this area has been hit multiple times this year by flooding (Hurricane Hilary is one event in specific) Watch for muddy floods as 3-5" of rain is quite possible. Keep the terrain in mind

Interestingly shaped Slight Risk today (D1) The reason for its odd “squished” appearance is due to the SPC taking account of a pronounced EML that will prevent storms from getting going But, In front of it, there is a 5% (non sig) tornado risk! Be weather aware today in FL/AL/GA

They mentioned some quite potent variables here; 1000-2000 CAPE, 100+ 3CAPE, 80kt of shear, and multiple rounds of possibly significant severe weather. Yes, this is pretty scary, there’s no way around that; BUT, no one should panic. If you take proper precautions-

Don’t rely on a vehicle for shelter against a tornado; because they are no match for an EF3+ monster like Winchester Get to an appropriate, strong shelter (preferably a certified tornado shelter)
