Serious question
@TDLockett12
so does the University of Washington need to change itโs name? George Washington Owned slaves? Washington State? Washington DC?
@TDLockett12
The school I teach at is named after Thomas Jefferson which is especially concerning considering our school has a high number of African refugees.

There shouldnโt be educational facilities named after slave owners in the first place. And schools also need to teach all children the real black History all of it. Instead of white washing it and changing facts.
@TDLockett12
I think the purpose of those names and statues is not for idolization, but for a reminder. A reminder to never go back to that place. Removing those reminders is removing history, making it more likely to repeat. Maybe not with people of a different race, but different beliefs.

As a nation , we have to own our history. Rename the confederate schools. Slavery is our past. It was wrong, we must own it. Be better, but the same slave owners that knew no better, wrote those same freedoms you are using now.
@TDLockett12
I'm fine with changing names of schools if they're named after Confederate generals, but changing names of schools named after Washington and Jefferson is a bad idea
