I think the
#SteamDeck
vs
#Switch
debate needs to end.
The Switch is a console on a closed ecosystem where games work out of the box.
The Steam Deck is a full computer on an open ecosystem where games need some tweaks to optimally run.
These are different markets guys!
@RunJumpStomp
I’m more surprised how intense it can get. I’ve seen people berate Switch users for just wanting to stick to that, and vice versa for the Deck. It’s ridiculous. I think everyone should just enjoy gaming!
@SteamDeckHQ
Completely different categories of device in completely different price brackets, no less. You can just about afford a 64 gig Steam Deck and a used Switch Lite for the cost of a PS5 bundle, that is how low the floor on the Switch goes. Of course they're not comparable.
@SteamDeckHQ
Yeah both offer two totally different experiences, I've never needed to spend two hours to get a game to run on Switch, but I've also never been able to download games from a different storefront on it
@correcthololive
Exactly. There are pros and cons to each, but at the end of the day, the Deck is a computer and this kind of tweaking is part of the gig, whereas the Switch is a console that just works, but has limited selection.
@THE_SE7EN_SINS
I think it depends on the game! Some can run out of the box, but does that mean it should be left that way? A lot of games have default settings not accustomed to the Deck, I even found a new defaulting to 1080p!
@SteamDeckHQ
Unfortunately, it's not gonna end price is only 50 more than a switch oled, and it can do what the switch does but 20x better than Nintendo and really everything else in that price range. People got a taste of AAA gaming on the go and valve created a affordable god tier system.
@BlkGodTheGamer
The price…I can’t argue that. Valve priced this product fantastically.
Valve and Nintendo had different priorities with these products for sure. In the end, it comes down to preference!
@tarmo888
The console-UI is handy, but there’s definitely tweaks if you’re optimizing for things like battery life or stable framerate.
Hades, for instance, can be played out of the box, but actually drains more battery than it needs to. A single tweak can add an hour of battery.
