The good news is:
Canha
Carrasco
Pham
Hunter
Vogelbach
Leone
Perez
Cano
Ruf
Will all be off the books after this season. That’s 79 million off the books and we’ll only have a 290 million dollar payroll!
@Sprint2First
Pham, Hunter, Vogelbach, Perez? Lol Ruf make nothing. And this team still has aging players making a lot. I dont think looking at payroll is the gameplan rn for 2024, 2025
@Sprint2First
The bad news is: Scherzer will be 39, Verlander 41, Ottavino 38, Marte and Escobar 35 each. Mets are committed to paying $261.5 million to 19 players, all over the age of 30. No way to compete.
@Sprint2First
The Mets are absolutely cooked payroll wise the next 2 years and youre right it does shrink after my worry is that Cohen is so frustrated with the next 2 seasons he decides he doesnt want to spend anymore. Mets need to rid eppler and bring in someone who can compete under lux.
@Sprint2First
The money side and owner with deep pockets is nice, but there are no guarantees.
Consider the Pirates, sitting atop the NL Central with a $75 million payroll.
(That's less than just Scherzer and Verlander combined)
