It had many abuses that were bad and should be condemned but Pax-Americana was on-net positive AND better than any realistic alternative world orders
Not a novel observation but it is genuinely horrible how much of the international norms surrounding "territorial annexations are prima facie wrong" have completely deteriorated over the last ~5 years
๐ป๐ช๐ฌ๐พ Venezuela is holding a referendum vote today on the issue of annexing 160,000 sq km of neighbouring Guyana.
Territorial dispute is more than a century old, but has taken on a far more serious and immediate tone following the discovery of vast Guyanese oil reserves.

America's intervention in Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya were all mistakes but arguing that outweighs all the benefits of the post-war global order is silly. Some people really don't know what "on-net" means, huh

I agree with this take but at the same time do not see any viable way to maintain Pax Americana, besides the USA devoting an increasingly large fraction of national resources to world policing, which is domestically unpopular.

I agree, and it's partially warranted given the horrible misadventures the neocons took us on but arguably we've over-course-corrected in the public sphere. Isolationism wasn't a viable doctrine in the 20th Century and it sure as fuck isn't in the 21st
