The first felt more personal, the second more expanded. The trailer here shows they properly nailed the original aesthetic, albeit in a more modern form.
A real shame it got cancelled.

The games donβt need to be remade, imho, they are perfect snapshots of their time. There wasnβt anything like them. Still isnβt.

See, I had that same view.
However, I am open to the possibility now of them going in that direction, IF and it's a big if, they can recapture the same feel of the original games.
I think honestly speaking, it'll be the easiest way continuity wise, from a graphical point ofβ¦

They must still have these assets somewhere, so it would be easy in theory to continue in the same vein.
Certainly far, far easier than the job the YS Net team had with having to start pretty much from scratch in some ways.
The dream scenario would definitely be full SEGA JPβ¦

They explained at the time that although they were exploring a remake, there were issues with the engine that made it not fully compatible, and it would have taken more than double the time to release.

Still convinced that the Yakuza Studio. could easily create a Shenmue Remake or a worthy sequel. In a way Shenmue was the proto Yakuza. Sad that SEGA lost faith.

Well, they're obviously an experienced team and are in the good books of SEGA JP.
They would be a massive asset to have on board, should anything materialise in future.

Kind of sad when you think the level of work that likely went into this and it just ended up getting canned.
Also, arguable as to whether this or the KS route was the better one.β¦
