Happy Thanksgiving … be safe and prosper to all around the globe. I am deeply thankful for the social media community that has personally connected with me during the last 14 months.
Today would have been Thelonious Monk's 106th birthday.
I only played with Mr. Monk once, filling in for his ailing bass player. He asked me to play more with him, but only once I finished my studies.
We never played together again, but I will always cherish those memories.
Who me? Do I look sharp enough? Heading out the door shortly with Mrs. Maestro, work out at 5:30 a.m. and physical therapy went well today, teaching was a pleasure, and voici … fresh as a spring daisy.
Today I wish
@Wayne_Shorter
my good friend and musical compatriot these many years, a very happy birthday. An outstanding saxophonist and an exceptional composer. Speak No Evil is the 6th album by Mr. Shorter, released in June 1966
@bluenoterecords
oh, and it was fun to make.
This wonderful capture popped up in my inbox with well wishes of healing … I AM following all doctors orders, my back is still healing well, and I DO plan to be back on the bandstand shortly…warmest, Maestro
I'm honored to say I have much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Family & friends… My trio & quartet… All of you, my fans… Even the bass itself.
Today, take a moment to say thank you to the ones you hold dear.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Be safe and be kind.
-Maestro

As I approach my 87th birthday, I have been reflecting on the importance of education. The Ron Carter Library is a collection of learning tools for any bassist, comprised of my developed practices & techniques. View the collection on

Two jazz greats were born this day. Wes Montgomery and Flora Purim have both left lasting impacts on the jazz world.
I have long been inspired by Mr. Montgomery, and I am honored to have recorded alongside Miss Purim

We never played together after that, but I cherish those memories.
A notable moment in history over 60 years in the making ;)…everyone can join in… Recommend a certain musician/bassist by the name of Ronald Levin Carter, :-), for the 2023 Kennedy Center Honors for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Many years ago, I decided that I wanted to do Bach's suites for the solo cello on bass. For the next six months I practiced my brains out.
To honor Bach's 339th birthday, let's take a moment to revisit those suites.
