The left needs to bite the bullet and argue against the vision for universal homeownership

@RazzberryYams Absolutely correct, shifting wealth from housing to stocks (and increasing rental rates) will increase worker mobility, decrease inequality, and decrease petit bourgeois brainworms

@RazzberryYams I agree. The left should absolutely do this and crush any chances of obtaining any sort of electoral and legislative power. Wonderful idea. πŸ™„

@tysongmoore The idea that people's stakes in society are represented through property ownership goes against everything the left ostensibly stands for.

@RazzberryYams If you're going to argue against universal property ownership, you have to argue in favor of landlords

@RazzberryYams I think the left is already doing enough unpopular stuff. Not that I think universal homeownership is a good goal, but politically, taking a stand against it is not a winning move.

@RazzberryYams That will show the MAGA. I’m sure they are laughing at you for voluntarily paying rent for a place that isn’t yours for the rest of your life.

@RazzberryYams They have. They just don't say it out loud. They want people to live in high density apartments.

@RazzberryYams I think generally time to accept its backfired. So many have taken actions to protect their "investment" i.e. blocking new housing, they've closed the door behind them, and made the rent too damn high in the process

@RazzberryYams The reason no one does is because it's electoral poison. And it's electoral poison because people like owning things.

@RazzberryYams Some caution: 1) even amongst Lefts home ownership is likely still viewed as β€œgenerally desirable” by a vast majority - so politically this feels like to could be a loser… 2) don’t be against something just b/c Thatcher was for it (I fear this has informed your logic here)

@RazzberryYams Counterargument: If I own my home I don't have some landlord charging me $30 per cat per month
