Nothing like just walking in to hang a new bag of fluids and finding your neuro patient with their entire bloody trach in their hand 😑 PUT THAT THING BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM

@RNSuperHero Ha. I see your trach and raise you Standing on the bed brandishing a pulsating IABP and femoral artery spurting right in front of me. Agitated delirium from ETOH withdrawal makes spicy patients in the ICU.

@JuliaMAppleton Haven’t had anybody pull out their balloon pump yet. But have had a femoral artery blow up post procedure once. Blood literally on the ceiling 🙃

@RNSuperHero I saw that happen in a remote, rural public school who decided it was ok for a student to attend without a nurse onsite (she luckily was there that day, her one day per week)

@playingonT I have actually never seen a school with a nurse onsite in my rural area of Michigan with the exception of the one special needs school per county ☹️

@RNSuperHero My aunt (we called her Lazarus because she came back from the brink so many times) used to routinely extubate herself and then demand tea as her stats crashed. She was fun.

@ChrisMartiny I have had these patients. Especially the patients with severe copd. Once had a pulmonologist refer to them as anerobes because they were so good at living without oxygen 😂

@RNSuperHero Been there. Not mine but coworker. Someone: Hey, your patient's calling for help *nurses chair crashes against the wall behind her*: He's talking? He's not supposed to say anything! He has a trach! Ah, the beginnings of an interesting night... not gonna lie. I don't miss that

@RNSuperHero Yep. Um , I don’t think that’s how it works..screams in respiratory therapist. Oh, that is not how that works, let’s try putting a new one in. ( whispers to nurse, y’all have drugs for him, right? ). Cause one of us is going to need them and I have to drive home.

@RNSuperHero My sister pulled hers out twice! Caused her to have tracheal stenosis that needs multiple procedures to repair. Nothing could stop her. Mittens,babysitter-nothing. The next time she was intubated she chewed thru the tubing. She is a nightmare patient.
