Still wondering why I have to do both BLS and ACLS. If I’m ACLS certified it should cover both!!!

Imagine when you have to do pals and they still make you do Alcs and BLS? I’m always so confused like why do I neeed all this it’s the same shot

I always wondered about this when I was still at the bedside. Seems silly to have to go through both when BLS is covered during ACLS certification.

Money. That is the only reason. Why can’t there also be a combined BLS, ACLS, PALs recert once you have gotten them all?

i asked my manager this question and she didn’t have an answer 🙃 like it’s pointless to have both

It has been that way for as long as I remember. I used to teach both. Asked the same question and never got a satisfactory answer. Redundant.

They told us bls focused on compressions & acls focused on team work, meds and higher care. Bls is yearly here, acls every 2yrs.

BLS also covers Peds/infant CPR, which is not in ACLS. My hospital just covers both classes in one recert class

Because most non Critical Care nurses are terrified to take ACLS so the split up the skills.
