I do not understand people who publicly bash nurses because they got a bruise from an IV or that a blood draw hurt….you got poked with a needle, it sucks we know but the fact that it didn’t feel great doesn’t mean we are shitty at our jobs

Also sometimes perfectly good IVs go bad later, it happens! Your nurse didn’t automatically do a bad job if this happens to you. Knock it off.

@RNSuperHero All blood draws hurt. Hence the reason why I hate receiving needles.

@Misfit_CO_5280 I just had blood drawn on Monday, yes it didn’t feel great and yes I have a bruise. The tech did a great job. Needles suck

@RNSuperHero We didn’t grow the veins we’re sticking either sometimes we miss or they blow because they’re fragile I have fragile veins & expectations are I’m going to be stuck more than once for IVs or lab draws

@RNSuperHero Um one time I intubated a dude when he coded in the gift shop and he filed a complaint with the ombudsman that I gave him a fat lip.

@RNSuperHero I hear this at least once a month, smile and nod and internally shake my head.

@RNSuperHero I tell my patients the process of a blood draw. I even draw pictures. I show them how small a target it is and we dont have xray vision. Usually after i explain it, pts gain a new respect for the skill it takes to draw blood at all. 😊

@RNSuperHero About the only time I will gripe about a bruise from a blood draw is if they go fishing for the vein and I end up with a huge bruise that extends beyond the elbow.

@RNSuperHero Pt: don’t hurt me. Me: if I could invent a painless needle I wouldn’t be working anymore.

@RNSuperHero You never hear them criticize their surgeon for the incisional pain from a scalpel. Sometimes healing involves getting stuck w pointy things. The result is often worth temporary discomfort.

@RNSuperHero As a frequent flyer at my hospital, and I tell you that my veins are tricky, please call the nurse that can hit a vein the first time with no lidocaine. I love y’all, but I’ve been a pincushion and if I can get an IV without repeated pain, it helps my brain learn that it’s okay.
