Dear management, the patients are not always right. Sometimes us nurses, doctors and techs actually have done everything we can and haven’t done anything wrong and the patients are just unhappy

@RNSuperHero As an occasional patient and visitor I think the problem is that people need to realize that a hospital is not the holiday inn

@WilliamSharwel1 More than anything I think lack of knowledge plays into it. The patients don’t understand why we do what we do and it doesn’t make sense to them. I try and explain but that doesn’t always work

@RNSuperHero Also, just because the patient is mad about something doesn't mean they had an inappropriate medical encounter. Medicine is one of the fields where the patient is not always right.

@WarBeavr I mean yes there are times I apologize to patients because they are upset about something valid but more often than not They’re just angry

@RNSuperHero One of my favorite stories is the patient who complained about our treatment of him to my director (I coordinated a clinic at the time), So she went to his doctor to see how we could improve his experience. Docs said “him? He’s crazy – I just fired him.”

@RNSuperHero I don’t think I’ve ever met a patient who was happy about or liked their ICU experience.

@RNSuperHero I’m tired of defending my nursing practice every time I get a complaint. I work ER, patients are never happy, even the ones we save.

@RNSuperHero In my unit, the complaint is they felt rushed and the nurse was moving the pt.out tooo quickly. They expect me to have them stay all day in the spu and just keep pushing opioids into them all shift. NOT

@RNSuperHero This is brilliant response. I would argue 90% or our complaints are about patient expectations not being matched about what we can really offer. Sometimes patients have to accept we have done our best and that is all we can do

@RNSuperHero I sometimes wish I could tell patients I am not here to give you what you want, I am here to give you what you need.

@RNSuperHero I can’t even count how many times people come in for a second ER visit for the same complaint, whether they were seen at our hospital or another a day or 2 prior, and say “they didn’t do anything for me! They were awful!” But they did labs, X-rays, ekg, meds, CT scan, etc. 😑

@RNSuperHero As a b/c survivor, I think we are a different type of patient. Despite endless bloodwork, horrible chemo & painful radiation, the comeraderie between nurses & patients was palpable. They were compassionate & helpful & we were grateful always for their care. #thankanurse

@RNSuperHero @nursemckenzy SPOT ON!!’ I had to scan a pt c-spine s/p mva, he was in a c- collar and had on a necklace which I have to remove. He thought I was going to break the necklace so he tries to take the collar off. As I was stopping him. I explained why he could not take it off
