Canada is banning the flipper zero and similar devices. It’s likely only a matter of time before we see these devices under legislative scrutiny in the US.
This begs the question, are cyber weapons protected under the 2A?
@Psy_ware
This is not a weapon and it falls under the FCC guidelines for Radio Frequency Interference.
Also 2A specifically says "firearms" not "weapons"
@Psy_ware
If the flipper can break your security it wasn't really secure in the first place. It is a bunch of off-the-shelf parts which have no inherent ability to defeat a secure system.
@Psy_ware
I wonder how banning these devices would pass muster in SCOTUS?
Because they’re not sold as crime committing devices. It’s not a criminal offense to posses one.
Why would this be any different than a laptop? A tablet?
These weren’t the first electronic devices used in criminal…
@Psy_ware
That is, if you can consider this a weapon. This could also be a diagnostic tool and pen-tester, as it was designed.
Per usual, things with a capability of being abused are often abused.
