The weight & smooth pass allows Iniesta time to orientate his body sideways look up for information (as it’s travelling towards him) arrange his feet to accept the ball & drag it forward into his path - flowing football requires players to give a pass that sets up the next action

Fast passes can be counterproductive as the receiver may not have time to search for the information (as the ball is travelling to him) that allows them to get their 1st touch to the best place - it’s not just “ball speed” that matters but the flow of information & communication

In this example the perfect pass would have been slightly quicker & in front of Iniesta allowing him to both look for the information (as the ball is travelling to him) to decide his next action & maintain the most efficient flow of his body forward without pausing slightly

@Paulmcg8 footwork patterns & body shape to create space. The most underrated coaching tool we have. Must use more.

@Paulmcg8 I remember hearing you, and probably Eric Harrison and Jim Ryan at some point at Utd training mid 90s say to player's..."can you make your pass playable for your teammates".... Always stuck with me! 😀👍⚽

@Paulmcg8 That's why mixed aged footy was good the younger kids learned from the older kids and the older kids learned from the youngsters as they had to be more precise with their pass and be aware if they were predominately right or left footed
