A Rohilla Afghan (the one clad in dark blue dress) and a Punjabi Jat of Jalandhar, 1860.
From an album called "The people of Punjab" drawn by Sanee the 'Draftman' (a native Hindoo) from Jullunder, 1860. Toor Collection.

Note: Jat peasants of rural Punjab wore only loincloth with a sheet on their shoulders in 19th century. The same artist has many other paintings depicting Jat zamindars of Punjab with same dress.

@Pashz7
this was not jat attire, it was peasent attire used only when in fields cultivating and farming due to intense heat of punjab summar, i can show you many attires of jatts but it doesnt matters, still on average jatt > pathan
@Pashz7
Sorry dear I see it as a culture phenomena. On the other hand we know that historically it was Ludhiana (perhaps named after Lodi dynasty) where majority of the exiled Kings & Amir of Afghanistan took refuge or launched campaign to capture Kabul as a puppet of the British Empire
@Pashz7
It was the Afghans who made the Punjabis cover their back and front parts and later covere their whole body, and before that, Punjabis were totally naked!
@Pashz7
Lol. It was a standard field attire of many farmer groups. You don't want to spoil your good clothes by using them in fields. You can still find many people using shorts and briefs during farming. Specially in rainy season
