Here we are in 2022 and the only footage released from that night is used in a documentary to label him as a homophobe who just showed up and went on a homophobic rant

I mentioned before, this organization was almost exclusively rich white gay men & lesbian women. Well, they had friends in high places. They paid for news article, just straight up lying. They said Pryor was mad it was a gay rights event, but they had told people not to say gay.

The LA Times specifically ran a full page ad demanding Richard Pryor apologize to the LGBTQ community then over the next several issues published 17 letters from angry people who were at The Hollywood Bowl that night.

Did Richard Pryor apologize? He apologized for a lot of stuff in his life, but he didn't apologize for that shit. While white members of the LGBT were pissed off. He garnered a lot of support from Black people in The Bay Area. Why? Because he told the fucking truth.

One person stated, "Being a black homosexual and living here practically all my life, I can say that the California homosexual is the most extreme of bigots. He hates blacks, fats, women, and himself most of all."

Another is quoted as saying, "Pryor’s actions were crude, but sadly true. If one refuses to believe, let any person who is fat, black, ugly or female try going to a gay club alone.”

Now, let's get into Richard Pryor's personal life. For starters, Wilbur Right wasn't a fictional person he made up to piss people off. Wilbur Right was a gay man, who grew up with Richard Pryor and they moved to Chicago together where they shared an apartment.

Quincy Jones can't hold water let alone tea and let slip that Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor were fucking. Marlon Brando was one of the coolest white people ever and was also very open about the fact that he slept with men and women.

The other thing is, The Hollywood Bowl wasn't the first time Richard Pryor talked about sleeping with men, or the last. His very first stand up special, Live and Smokin' he talked about his dick sucking technique. He had a trans girlfriend named Mitrasha in his autobiography.

Richard Pryor had always been pretty open about going both ways. Here he is talking about sleeping with Paul Mooney.

Despite Richard Pryor very clearly being in the LGBTQ community in the words of his own, as well as others that knew him, he's still getting backlash for that show.

So yes, Richard Pryor has faced backlash from the LGBTQ community. Not because he hates trans people like Dave Chapelle but because he had the nerve to call out racism in the LGBTQ community and they were upset that the call was coming from inside the house. Even 45 years later.
