The Red Sox always thought JD Martinez fell into the Justin Upton $21.2 million AAV and not the Yoenis Cespedes $27.5 AAV. In the end there was a slight compromise but certainly not half way. The opt outs may have been the other concessions but Martinez will be 32 at that point.
