During my uni days I ran for Nigerian Students Association President in my school. I said my manifesto and all the things I intended to achieve. My opponent came up and said my manifesto was good but “we all know presidency is a man’s job”. I won that election with a huge margin.
This conversation reminds me of the last SUG presidential elections I witnessed. The female contestant came out to give us her impressive credentials and tell us her feasible plans.
The male contestant came out to tell us you don't need any credentials to be a leader.🤚😩
I had a track record of excellence both academically and in leadership. I was the outgoing Vice President. I was well known and liked and disliked in equal measure. There was no way I would lose the election. So I found it hilarious that the man weaponised misogyny against me.
And for the people moving silly in my mentions, asking if more men didn’t vote for me, actually more women voted for me. The Nigerian Students community in my school then had more women than men.
