Once again I am going to say it that the church is the reason people are leaving church. And it’s unkind this thing where the church burns or breaks people and tells them that if they leave because of church hurt, then they are immature or they didn’t focus on God enough.
It’s unkind and victim shaming. It trivialises their pain and mocks them for desiring community which is actually what the church offers. If it wasn’t for that, people can just have their personal relationships with God and keep it moving.
And the most annoying part of all of this is that with the constant victim shaming, the church doesn’t take responsibility because more focus is placed on disregarding the hurt and spiritual abuse the victim faced, then addressing the actual issue and ensuring justice is served.
If more people got justice for the harm done to them in and by the church, maybe they won’t leave. Maybe the excuse of the church being made up of flawed humans would make sense, because in a world with flawed humans, there are still consequences for harming others.

Thissss. It’s really hurtful seeing people weaponise spirituality again others. Or the more common one of pastors saying that even when a pastor is wrong, you shouldn’t call them out because of honor.
