For every 100,000 births, 173 of the babies born to the richest white moms die before their first birthday, while 350 babies born to the poorest white moms die; meanwhile, 437 babies born to the richest Black moms die, while 653 babies born to the poorest Black mothers die.
And let's not forget who the crisis most deeply impacts: Black women in the U.S., regardless of their economic circumstances, are dying in childbirth at higher rates than non-Black moms.
