While other nations with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development spend an average of $14,436 on child care per toddler, the U.S. government spends about $500.
We need all levels of government to approach child care for what it is: basic infrastructure.
In the meantime, we need the private sector to step up and make sure their employees have child care.
And that is exactly why we launched the National Business Coalition for Child Care (NBCC).
In short, they can start with the following:
1. Recognize child care as a business issue.
2. Implement gender neutral parental leave policies.
3. End the motherhood penalty.
