The Mesa Police Department is increasing patrols starting tomorrow 02/24/22 in the area if Val Vista and the US 60.
Traffic Officers will be in the area looking for drivers violating the Arizona hands free cell phone law.
Drivers are not allowed to hold a cell phone while
driving. This includes talking, texting, or using an app on your cell phone.
A driver caught using their cell phone fades up to a $150 fine for their first offense. Please practice safe driving to avoid a possible citation.

Thanks MesaPD. I see so many people looking at cell phones while driving. Usually they are going super slow or drifting in and out of their lane. Both of these behaviors are dangerous on the road.
@MesaPD
I am glad you are ticketing drivers that text while driving . The only thing is ,is that they will be good for a little while and then go back to texting . I see it every day that I go out . 150.00$ is a good fine but a little more wouldn't hurt .lol
@MesaPD
With how short staffed you are and the number of catalytic converters being stolen, along with other crimes, I think you could use your time more wisely.
@MesaPD
Thank you for doing this. Years ago in Tempe, I nearly was hit by a woman who was on her cell phone. Terrifying experience. People need to stop doing this shit.
@MesaPD
I've been rear-ended at least 5 times, 2 were same day, unrelated. I have serious neck, back, hip & leg issues. Cause others weren't paying attn. I have life-lasting injuries, more surgeries, etc.
@MesaPD
Really nothing better to do? Fight crime real crime not petty stuff, yes driving with a phone in hand is no good,but to make it a focal point is a bit much
@MesaPD
Son was in 5 car pile up on freeway last week bc car 1 swerved quickly to get to off ramp. Officer checked cell phone hx. Teen son not on his tg. He knows better. We gotta get off the cell phones while driving!
