Pen Dinas hillfort, Aberystwyth. Rendered in 3D from #lidar data using #aerialod for some moody lighting. Now part of a community archaeology project driven by @PenparcauForum @DyfedArch @cadwwales #HillfortsWednesday

@MarkWalters_ @PenparcauForum @DyfedArch @cadwwales My mother’s family lived at the base of the fields, in Penparcau, leading up to Pendinas. Many childhood weekends were spent exploring the earthworks. It’s a remarkable site with quite an emotional attachment for me. #amle

@DrIestynJones @PenparcauForum @DyfedArch @cadwwales Knew it well as a kid as I went to school in Penglais and it was always there on the horizon. We had school trips up there with the history teacher.

@MarkWalters_ @PenparcauForum @DyfedArch @cadwwales Looks like it has a little sister hillfort just across the river from it.

@GardeningAtNigh @PenparcauForum @DyfedArch @cadwwales Yes, that’s a nice one. It is the Tan y Castell ring work and bailey castle built by the Normans in 1110 and occupied through to the 13th century. It is Aberystwyth’s first castle.
