Department of Homeland Security-funded Take This just put out a document demanding that game companies denounce "Gamergate 2".
Okay, now shit is going to hit the fan.
So, if "defund the police" doesn't actually mean "defund the police", why is everyone who's chanting "defund the police" surprised when people think that they actually mean "defund the police"?
Nerd culture is completely broken when we get to the point where moral panic arguments like this are coming from inside the house, from actual creatives.
It won't work.
All it takes is ONE message like this (whether it's some angry idiot, a troll trying to inflame the situation, a Smollett job, or whatever) and EVERYONE criticizing these people gets blamed. And multiple articles get written and battle lines are formed...
I would like to ask everyone who really cares about what's going on to stop harassing other people. I know how you guys feel, and yes I'm aware of the articles, but bear in mind that this is not the way to solve anything.
Ask them questions, support me and the cause, spread theโฆ
Just the EIC of The Gamer accusing Skyrim Grandma of facilitating harassment here.
Protip - journalists are supposed to reach out for comment to the people they're writing about.
So, Matt Walsh is getting on the video games thing when there's political capital to be made, despite his years long history of pissing and moaning about violent vidya?
This really isn't the guy you need to be trusting right now.

That response annoyed me. They're saying that Kotaku is completely and utterly wrong, but they're changing their game anyway because Kotaku manufactured a controversy?
This is the human garbage that Ubisoft changed the new Assassin's Creed game for.
Video game companies are bending the knee to genuinely malicious, vindictive people.
@VOIDInteractive
I feel you've made a mistake by making changes here. The Kotaku blogger (and others like him) are opposed to the very premise of your game and it's refusal to demonize law enforcement.
This manufactured controversy is just a convenient attack vector for them. They won't stop.
Remember when Heard stans were complaining about "inauthentic activity" and hashtag spamming from Depp supporters?
I bet they're totally silent about this.

So many people acting like you just namesearched and found some rando to pick on. If the fix went viral and loads of people were discussing it, then it's absolutely a legit thing to respond to.
There have been exactly zero proven cases of massive, multimillion-dollar sex trafficking rings in the US. The moral panic leads to immigrant women being jailed, prosecuted, deported, fined, and losing their kids and livelihoods. That's the real epidemic.
I guess this is what Rockstar is like now.
All those years of resisting governments and pressure groups over the content of their games, and now they roll over because of a couple of Kotaku articles.
"Oh no. The Gamers(tm) are mad at me because I said that I knew that there was someone abusing people and stealing money, but couldn't be bothered to name them publicly."
For all the pissing an moaning about -isms here, isn't it actually a really big fucking problem that this game is enabling minors to be whales in the first place?
@SophNar0747
Ever see those cringe minors who are like "when I was 13, I nearly became a nazi - and now I'm 15, I'm a communist because of Breadtube"?
(and it turns out that their "nazi" phase was liking Ben Shapiro, Peterson, or someone like that)
Seems that like Jesse Singal before him, Matt Yglesias has managed to anger some of the worst (and most grotesque) people on the internet by criticizing games journalism.
Okay, a lead designer on Gotham Knights is asking people to sign a petition demanding that the United Nations and President Biden censor a video game because it may cause mass shootings.
Lol, people in the quotes really be doing the "heh gamers" thing a few days after a petition asking Biden and the UN to ban Six Days in Fallujah was endorsed by loads of people working in the gaming industry.
On June 13, the newly elected Akamatsu Ken announced the organization of a team of experts to embark on the legal preservation of all old video games in a playable state.
Akamatsu is also interested in preserving online games and social games that are no longer available.
So, you're not any of the things Kotaku said you were (no-one who matters thought you were), but you're making changes anyway because a Kotaku blogger wrote a hitpiece?
Ever see "I can't talk about ethics in games journalism any more because gamergate ruined it" too?
Imagine not saying what you really think in case people on the internet think you agree with the Bad People.
Imagine being such a clout-chasing sack of crap that you deliberately crop an epilepsy warning to make it look as though CDPR negligently provided insufficient warning.
